RECORDING REVIEW:
L’ORGUE MODERNE – Various Composers – Aaron Tan (Organ)
Juget-Sinclair Op. 55 Organ – Sacred Heart Cathedral, Richmond, VA
Released: December 2025 – RAVEN OAR-208
“A finely curated collection of organ works all written by French, prize-winning students of the Conservatoire at the onset of the 20th century.”
“Everything here is played with care and introspection by concert organist Aaron Tan. Out of the multitude of vibrant stops at his disposal on this impressive 2024 Juget-Sinclair Organ, he always seems to apply the proper registration that perfectly suits the sonic character of each and every piece.”
“If you’re an avid pipe organ music enthusiast bemoaning the fact that new music is hard to come by, this may very well be the CD you were waiting for.”
Jean-Yves Duperron, Classical Music Sentinel, December 2025
PERFORMANCE REVIEWS:
“Aaron Tan’s playing was impeccable, and in such a lively acoustic, the organ and the organist coped brilliantly with many different moods and a vast array of styles.”
Alison E. Clark, Organ Canada, July 2023
“From the beginning of the recital, one sensed Tan’s ability to render the music’s essence, never distorting it to create an effect. It comes down to understanding the music one plays and Tan honours the music so well in this way.”
Gilles Leclerc, Pipelines (Ottawa RCCO Centre newsletter), January 2023
“Aaron Tan seemed to place himself in another league. His technical assurance was complete. The variety off his interpretative skill just continued to unfold into the most engaging performance I have witnessed in a long time.”
Matthew Power, Choir & Organ, Jan/Feb 2022
“… equally impressive in technique and aesthetics … Tan’s easy virtuosity even in the face of crazy textures … was a marvel to behold … Tan made a deep exploration of the colors of the organ and registered the music with fine attention to volume contrasts.”
