Private: Frédéric Champion
Winner of the 2008 Canadian International Organ Competition held in Montreal in October, Frédéric Champion has been heard on Radio-France, Austrian radio stations, and Japanese TV/Radio broadcasts.
“Hearing these performances, it is easy to understand why Frédéric Champion holds awards from not only the Canadian International Organ Competition, but many other competitions as well. These are commanding, powerful performances, exhibiting a controlled virtuosity tempered by superb musicality. Champion possesses a vast reservoir of technical strength that enables him to surmount every challenge and penetrate the substance of the music. The playing is full of vigor, freshness, clarity, and passion. To cite but one example, the “Toccata” of Duruflé’s Suite is incandescent; the complex figurations and formal design are clarified under Champion’s hands and feet … These exciting performances are a testament that Frédéric is indeed a champion.”
The American Organist, September 2010
“… Champion is one of the finest young organists you’ll ever hear. His virtuosity and expressive playing results in invigorating performances of familiar repertoire by Alain, Dupré, Duruflé, and Widor. The impressionistic contemporary pieces by Escaich, Florentz, and Robin are equally rewarding, and Champion’s own transcription of Saint-Saëns Danse macabre is a final tour de force. A fabulous disc!
